Pops in the Park
For 58 years the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra has been the only professional orchestra in the Upper Midwest dedicated solely to presenting concerts in city parks for the public, free of charge. Each summer the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra performs about 15 concerts at the Lake Harriet Bandshell (pictured here).
The Pops musicians can be heard in the off-season playing with the Minnesota Orchestra, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, and other professional ensembles.
The last time I went to one of these performances was when Avi and I were dating back in 2003. This time, in Avi's absence, I managed to convince my would-rather-be-riding-a-motorcycle father to come along with me for a Sunday evening performance.
