Festa del Redentore
Fifty thousand Venetians died in the Plague of 1576. To celebrate the plague's end, the Doge built a church on the island of Giudecca. When construction was complete in 1592, and every year since then, a temporary floating bridge was built from the Zattere for a walking processional to Giudecca - making Festa del Redentore the oldest continuously celebrated Venetian festival.
